Understanding your Relationship with Food
Cost £145 inc VAT
Food meets our daily requirement for nutrients and contributes to our
well being. But there is another side to food, and that is because, eating
and its impact on our lives are inextricably linked to our relationships,
initially with our mothers and families and later to other social roles;
as society has changed so have our eating patterns and behaviours.
Most people would admit that they eat for a variety of reasons other
than hunger – but why, and then why do we sometimes feel bad or
think we should?
Some people eat to boost their energy levels when tired or anxious.
Most of us have busy lifestyles, balancing work and personal life; consequently
we eat when we have the opportunity. As our lives become busier, our relationship
with food becomes more complex.
During the weekend you will have the opportunity to discover what food
means to you and it will give you an opportunity to resolve any issues,
so that you can enjoy your food without feeling guilty.
With all the messages in the media it can be very difficult to know
exactly what you should be eating to keep healthy and more importantly
feel good. Discover what constitutes a healthy eating plan and design
a regime that meets your needs and lifestyle.
This weekend will give you an opportunity to take time out and have
fun!

Transactional Analysis 101
Cost £145
We can all recognise repeated patterns of behaviour in ourselves and
others. We all experience conflict and resolution, being understood and
misunderstood, being seen or not seen. Transactional Analysis is a coherent
and pragmatic way of explaining how we can work well with each other to
bring out the best in each other and to understand where our strengths
lie.
This workshop will teach the overview of Transactional Analysis and
can be used for personal development or by anyone who works in an environment
where interpersonal skills are required.
It can be useful for children (8 and above), teachers, parents, GP's,
nurses, social workers and anyone of us interested in improving
the quality of human communication, co-operation and respect.

A Certificate in Eating Disorders & Dysfunctional Eating - Understanding
the Conditions and Treatment Options
October 22-23rd 2005, November 5-6th 2005, March 25-26th 2006,
June 3-4th 2006
10am-5pm
Cost £145
inc VAT per weekend
The term Eating Disorder covers a wide spectrum of individuals from
the emaciated, restrictive anorexia nervosa sufferer through to the normal
weight individual with bulimia nervosa to the overweight binge eater.
Disordered eating is a symptom of underlying problems; it is a way of
coping with unmanageable problems. The number of individuals diagnosed
with eating disorders appears to be increasing
- are we more aware or is our relationship with food becoming more complex?
These are some of the questions that will be addressed during the weekends.
Feeding and its impact on our lives are inextricably linked to our relationships,
initially with our mothers and families and later to other social roles;
as society has changed so have our eating patterns and behaviours. Some
of the work during the training will be experiential - an inquiry into
your relationship with food and the significance of body image. It is
important to appreciate how balance operates in your own life in relation
to diet, exercise, health and beauty care, so that, as a therapist, accepted
norms, values and prejudices can be addressed with the client.
There is no standard treatment approach for anorexia or bulimia, which
is equally successful for all. Transactional Analysis as a therapeutic
approach can enable the client to identify the core issues precipitating
their eating disorder. Through understanding and self awareness the client
can learn to differentiate their feelings; translate the overwhelming
anxieties and need for control into knowledge of their emotional needs;
and find ways to express their feelings, rather than internalise them
through obsessional behaviours and rituals.
The therapeutic relationship is central in helping the client resolve
their underlying issues. It is essential that the therapist provides attuned
responsiveness that will allow development to begin again where it was
derailed in earlier life. During the training consideration will be given
to the therapeutic relationship in the context of the patient's frame
of reference.
During the four weekends we will address the complex issues of eating
disorders including diagnosis, eating patterns, related norms and values,
prejudices, emotional and psychological issues. A variety of treatment
options will be discussed, including dietary therapy and the National
Institute of Clinical Excellence treatment guidelines; this will enable
you, as a therapist, to have a more flexible approach in meeting your
client's needs.
This certificate can be achieved by completing the four weekends and
the course work. However, if you have an interest in eating disorders,
then you can also attend an isolated weekend. For further information,
please contact Karen Chugg on 01392 422362.
We are currently applying for a University Certificate in Advanced Professional
Studies which will require completion of the Transactional Analysis
101 and the Eating Disorders weekends.
Weekends are available
individually or can be combined to gain a qualification
