Disordered eating is a symptom of underlying issues; it is a way of
coping with unmanageable problems. Eating becomes difficult when food
is used to help you to cope with difficult situations or emotions or to
relieve stress. By altering your eating behaviour you can often feel more
in control when life becomes challenging; whilst eating too much or too
little may once have been a useful technique, it often spirals you further
out of control and becomes a poor solution to resolving your problems.
There is no standard treatment approach for anorexia nervosa, bulimia
nervosa, compulsive eating or binge eating, which is equally successful
for all. At CAREFREE EATING we use Transactional Analysis as a therapeutic
approach to enable you to identify the core issues precipitating your
disordered eating. Through personal understanding and self awareness you
can find ways to translate the overwhelming anxieties and need for control
into knowledge of your emotional needs. Some of the work will involve
exploring your relationship with food and the significance of body image,
how balance operates in your life in relation to diet, exercise and health.
At CAREFREE EATING we have devised an approach that allows you to explore
yourself and your eating pattern in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental
environment. By increasing your awareness of eating in relationship to
your emotions and behaviour patterns and by exploring the role eating
plays in meeting your needs, then you can identify the change possibilities
and develop new ways to meet your needs.
At the initial consultation we will explore your needs and health
goals and devise a personal plan and support programme to achieve
those goals. Everybody’s needs are unique, consequently we do not
have a standardised approach, each plan is tailor-made to meet your requirements
and budget. We are based in Exeter, Devon and offer 50 minute
consultations on a one to one basis during the day, evenings and weekends.
